The designer kept it similar to that of the first book (same title font, same model), yet this cover "feels" totally different than the first. I wanted something that was clean and simple, yet properly portrayed the mood of the book. I think this cover does exactly that!

*Clears throat* I apologize for interrupting the chirping crickets in the background, but I wanted to let you all know that THOSE WHICH REMAIN, the sequel to INTO A MILLION PIECES, will be released this January!

To give you a little taste of what to expect, here's the back-cover description I've been working on:

In Into a Million Pieces, seventeen-year-old Allison
solved her sisterâs murder, barely escaping an attempt on her own life. Now,
with the past behind her, Allison is finally getting a taste of teenage
normalcyâgoing to school, hanging out with her best friend, and sharing it all
with her loving boyfriend, Ren. Life is good.

But it doesnât stay that way. It never does for a succubus.

When Allison's nature draws in a predator, shattering her
sense of trust and safety, she realizes the succubus curse is behind all the
darkness and heartache in her life. Determined to end it, she tracks down a
distant relative with knowledge about the curse. But more questions are raised
than answered when Allison meets the mysterious and wealthy Leona Doriano.
Suddenly thrust into a dangerous world of money, power, and deadly secrets,
Allison must find a way to break the curseâa curse not everyone wants brokenâbefore
sheâs drawn in too deep.

As you may have noticed, I said "I've been working on," because yep, I'm self publishing this bad boy. No, there wasn't a nasty falling out between me and my publisher. My experience with Red Adept Publishing has actually been very positive. They're just no longer publishing YA titles. It was strictly a business decision, and even though I was disappointed, I totally understood. The YA hype brought on by books like TWILIGHT, THE HUNGER GAMES, AND DIVERGENT has definitely died down, and selling YA books is getting tougher and tougher.

Self publishing was not an easy decision to make. The thought of doing (and paying!) for everything myself TERRIFIED me. I contemplated not publishing the sequel, but I'd already written it, and allowing readers to see how Allison's story ends has always been important to me. I know the chance is very slim I'll earn back the money it's costing me to put it out (editing, cover design, formatting, etc.), but that's okay. I've accepted the fact that this book is more a labor of love than a means of income.

Stay tuned for all the fun stuff coming up in the months ahead, and as always, thank you to the readers. Your love of Allison's story (and the beautiful reviews!) helped keep me going when things got rough and tough. I hope you're just as excited to read THOSE WHICH REMAIN as I am to share it!

Angela V. Cookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15065559147381012802noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5185899584159796636.post-15421385333146674862016-05-04T17:39:00.000-04:002016-05-04T17:39:04.117-04:00There's More to Life...So, I feel kinda bad... I've been MIA these past few months, and not just on here, but everywhere. My Twitter account has cobwebs, and Facebook has been sending me these "Um, you haven't posted anything in a while... Are you still alive" type of messages. Well, I just wanted to post a little something to let you all know (all three of you? on a good day?) I am still here. I have not left the writing world, I have not let my fame and fortune go to my head (little humor), and I am STILL working on my sequel.

Here's the thing. I am not just a writer. Don't get me wrong... I enjoy writing. Some days I love it. And in a perfect world, I'd be able to do it eight hours a day. But this is not a perfect world. Other things in my life take precedence, and I'm not afraid to admit that.

As writers, there's this unspoken rule (actually, it's not really unspoken) that our entire lives must revolve around writing. We have to write every day (if you're not finishing a book/year, why bother?), know what's going on in the business, be active on half a dozen social media sites, read until our eyes bleed (and if you can't finish a book/week, then you shouldn't write books), own this book/that book, have read this book/that book, love Star Wars/Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings, think Stephenie Meyers and E.L. James both suck and question how they ever got published... blah, blah, blah. Okay, I'm getting off track--my disillusionment with the writing community is whole other post. What I'm saying is, I'm tired of "the rules" and of people telling me I have to do A, B, and C in order to be a "real" writer. I am a writer, but it doesn't define my life. I'm a hard-working employee, a wife, a daughter, and most of all, a mother.

My life is busy right now. I'm still working on my sequel when I can, and it will come out (eventually) one way or another. I am in love with the story, and I think readers are really going to enjoy the little journey I take them on. That being said, I'm busy. And I'm tired. And I'm doing the best I can.

Thank you to those of you who still stop by occasionally looking for updates. I promise you, you will get the opportunity to read the continuation of Allison's story (it might not be for five more years... KIDDING!). As always, thank you for loving her story and for your continued support!!Angela V. Cookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15065559147381012802noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5185899584159796636.post-84076728374704879942016-01-07T17:37:00.001-05:002016-01-07T17:37:07.970-05:00Happy New Year!Ah, yes... it's that time again... the traditional "New Years" post. It's kind of crazy to think back to this time last year when I was caught up in the stress--and excitement--of preparing for the release of my debut novel. I hate to sound cliché, but wow, it's been a wild year. The first half was all about getting the word out about my book, in other words, a year spent contacting reviewers, answering interview questions, writing guest posts, contacting reviewers, participating in giveaways, contacting reviewers, did I mention contacting reviewers? Oh, and let's not forget the ever-important task of stalking Goodreads and Amazon.

It the middle of all that, we also tried selling our house. We actually received an offer, but it fell through, which caused the [contingent] offer we had put on a house--which we loved--to fall through. And as if the stress of releasing a book and trying to sell/find a house wasn't stressful enough, towards the end of the summer I received a promotion at my job. I went from a part-time, low-stress position to a full-time, high-stress, supervising position. The change has been a huge adjustment and has had an equally huge impact on my writing time.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't written anything in over two months. BUT, I'm happy to say that due to some extra time off around the holidays, I was able to get some writing done, and on January 3rd (a few days after my self-imposed deadline), I posted this to my Facebook page:

Yep, the sequel to INTO A MILLION PIECES is DONE!!! Of course, I probably have about 138 rounds of revisions ahead of me, but the bones of the story are there, and it feels like a ten-pound weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm so excited for everyone to read this book. There are some fabulous new characters and lots of unexpected twists and turns! Oh, and thanks to some awesome feedback I received in reviews, a lot of questions readers had get answered.

Before I sign off, I want to take a minute to thank those of you who showed your support in 2015. Whether you hosted me on your blog, wrote a review, or just helped get the word out about my book, I appreciate it more than you know. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

What is this #BADASSREADS I speak of? Well, it involves getting to know twenty authors over the course of the summer. At the end of it all, twenty five (yes, I said TWENTY-freakin'-FIVE) signed books will be given away (grouped into seven prize packs).

INTO A MILLION PIECES is part of the "SPELLS, SPIRITS and SWOONS, OH MY!" Prize pack (and let me tell ya, I am in some AMAZING company). And because I love you guys so much, I've made entering incredibly easy by including the rafflecopter below.

Oh, and it just so happens, I am the official #BadAss author of the day, so if you hop on over to www.bethanycrandell.com, you'll get to find out some cool stuff about me, like why I think Slip-n-Slides are a deathtrap, and why people who cut their toenails at work should be hung by them.

Good luck!
How has it already been two months since my last post on here?!?! And how in the world can my little book baby already be almost four months old?!?!

Time has been passing by at the speed of light, and the fact that my life has been EXTREMELY busy lately doesn't help. A few months back, it was all about promo and book tours and reaching out to book reviewers, and now a whole new beast has entered my life--moving. We listed our house almost two months ago, and about two weeks ago, we accepted an offer. So, now we're in the stage of looking for a new house, while anxiously awaiting to see if our house appraised high enough (for the buyers mortgage). Oh, and did I mention the new owners want to be in the house in about a month? And in case you missed the prior sentence, we don't have a house yet! Sooo... yeah. A wee bit stressed.

Moving on... (pun intended)

The blog tour went well! There were lots of guest posts, interviews, and lovely reviews! I'm in the process of posting links to all the stops on my "Interviews, Guest Posts, and Reviews" page (surprise, surprise, I'm a little bit behind). Thanks to everyone who stopped by or hosted me on their blog. It was a great time :)

So, what's going on as far as writing? Not much, sorry to say. I'm about 30K into the sequel for INTO A MILLION PIECES, but I doubt I'll be able to tackle anymore wordage for a while--at least not until this whole house stress is over with. I will say that I'm happy with what I've written so far. I think readers are really going to enjoy the new setting, characters, and--of course--plot twists!

As I was saying earlier, I can't believe it's been four months since INTO A MILLION PIECES debuted!! I just want to say thank you to everyone who bought a copy or has shown his/her support in any kind of way! I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

A lot of people have asked me, "Is being a published author what you thought it would be?" It's a very good question and one I want to answer, but since I recently wrote a guest post on the topic--which will go live on June 7th (I think)--I'm going to hold off answering it until then. I'll post a link to it when it does, so stay tuned :)
Cookhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15065559147381012802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5185899584159796636.post-87427404211875305562015-01-05T17:10:00.004-05:002015-01-05T17:12:36.313-05:00JANUARY 27th OR BUST!!!Something VERY exciting is happening on January 27th... Care to take a guess? If you're not into guessing, feel free to take a little gander at the countdown to your right.

Yep, that's right--my book... my baby... my labor-o-love... is being released into the wild on January 27th! I'm a whole-lotta excited mixed with a smidge of terrified. It's hard to believe that this time of year, four years ago, I was just plotting this bad boy out. And now, (after 1,785 rounds of edits--give or take), it's going to be out there for the whole world to read. I'm not going to lie; it's all a bit bizarre, the idea that people all around the world are going to be privy to the inner workings of my crazy, and sometimes twisted, imagination. I'm not really sure what to expect. I don't think I'll move people with my beautiful prose (I'm not that kind of writer) or deep, complicated themes, but I do hope I entertain them. I want readers to be able to forget about the world around them, even if for just a little bit, and get lost in my story. If I can do that, I'll consider myself a success.

And now for the good stuff. There will be a HUGE release-week giveaway!! We're talking several signed copies of YA books, an ENSNARED print signed by author A.G. Howard, Amazon gift cards, and more! So please make sure you stop by on January 27th for all the deets!Angela V. Some of you might remember this from a few years back (a little "for fun" project I put together before my publishing contract). Since publication is right around the corner (*dies*), I decided to take it out of storage and revamp it (prettied it up, shortened the length, etc.). I hope you guys like it!

I am absolutely THRILLED with how it turned out!! So much hard work went into it (Red Adept Publishing ROCKS!).

So what's this book about, you might ask? Well, well, well...just take a gander at the official book description below.

Allison McKready is a succubus. So is her twin sister. But while Allison spends her summer break hiding in the library behind her Goth makeup, Jade fools around as often as she can. Allison canât believe Jade would ignore their motherâs fatal example so recklessly, but concealing a cursed bloodline and its dangerous effects is far from Allisonâs only problem. Mean girl Julieâs snob mob is determined to ruin her summer, and Aunt Sarahâs Bible thumping is getting louder. Only her new friend, Ren Fisher, offers safe haven from the chaos of her life.

When one of Jadeâs risky dates leads to humiliation and sudden tragedy, Allison reels, and Ren catches her. But as her feelings for him grow, so does her fear that sheâll hurt himâor worseâin an unguarded moment. The choice is comingâlove him or save himâbut Allison might not live to make it. One way or another, the curse will have its due.
Finding one you like and then realizing two years later that you have to change it really sucks.

That's what happened with SPARK. When trying to come up with a title three years ago, I knew I wanted something simple that encompassed the story's premise. SPARK was perfect. Fast forward three years later, and the title has been stamped on the cover of a slew of books, including several YA novels.

Before I even signed with my publisher, I was told I'd have to change the title, because the last thing they want is someone to go on Amazon looking for my book and end up purchasing something by a different author. I get it and totally agree, but I have to admit, the idea of changing the title of my book made me a wee bit sad and a whole lot anxious (I have to think of another title!?!?!). For three years, SPARK was the title of my story, and it felt a little bit like renaming your kid after realizing there are five other kids with the same name in his/her Kindergarten class. It might make sense...but...but...that's my baby's name :-(

However, I am happy to say that I found a title I'm THRILLED with. And the best part is, I got to come up with it myself (small press perk #896)! So without further adieu, Spark is now.....

Into a Million Pieces

It actually comes from a line in the book, and I feel like it encompasses a major theme in the story (and that's all I can say about that without giving too much away).

Onto other news...

I am now on Facebook!! Let me rephrase that, I now have an author page on Facebook. I'd love it if you "liked" it. I'll be posting fun stuff on there, like my cover reveal (no details yet, but I know it's being worked on) and release dates. Once my book is out in the wild, I'll post links to interviews, guest posts, and reviews (and the good stuff--GIVEAWAYS!!). Here's the link to it https://www.facebook.com/AngelaVCook. Hope to see you over there!
